Nigel Cairns

Nigel has been President and CEO at QuIC since December 2004. This came after an extremely successful period as Senior Vice President of Sales & Business Development. He is highly experienced both as a senior executive in leading risk software companies and as a risk manager in financial institutions.

Before joining QuIC, Nigel was Vice President of Global Sales for risk software vendor Algorithmics. There, he managed a growth in annual sales to over $100 million. Prior to that, Nigel headed sales for IBM Global Financial Markets, EMEA Region. At IBM, he was responsible for the sale and delivery of software solutions and professional services to financial institutions throughout Europe, the
Middle East and Africa.

Nigel moved in to sales after gaining extensive experience working directly in trading and risk management. This has included being appointed Head of Credit Risk Management at Swiss Bank Corporation and America International Ltd.

Doug Woodham

Doug is Managing Director and Head of Corporate Employee Financial Services in the Wealth Management division of UBS. In addition to QuIC, Doug is also on the board of the Council for Economic Education. This is a non-profit organisation focused on advocating and supporting economics and personal finance education in middle schools and high schools.

Before joining UBS, Doug was the President of Moody's KMV, a credit risk solutions company that existed independent of the ratings agency. He was also Senior Vice President of Moody's Corporation, with responsibility for strategy, corporate development, operations and technology throughout the corporation. Prior to his involvement with Moody’s, Doug was a partner with McKinsey and Company. There, Doug worked on a variety of strategy, operational and profit improvement engagements. His career began as an Economist with the Federal Reserve.

Doug received his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University and went on to complete a Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Michigan. He was made a Research Fellow at the Brookings Institution.

Sam Znaimer

Sam is General Partner at Ventures West, having joined in 1983. He is a pioneer of the Canadian venture capital scene with 25 years of hands-on early stage technology investing experience.

At Ventures West, Sam focuses on cleantech and communications investments, leading the firm’s communications practice. Sam’s past investments include Statpower (acquired by Xantrex Technology), OctigaBay Systems (sold to Cray, NASDAQ: CRAY), Convedia (sold to RadiSys, NASDAQ: RSYS) and AudeSi (sold to Wind River, NASDAQ: WIND). Sam received an A.B. (cum laude) in chemistry from Harvard University and a M.Sc. in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Bob Smith

Bob has been a partner at JMI Equity since joining in 2000. His membership of QuIC’s board of directors coincides with JMI Equity’s initial investment in QuIC in January 2006.

JMI Equity is a private equity firm, based in Baltimore and San Diego. They are exclusively focused on making investments in the software and business services industries. Founded in 1992, JMI has invested in over 60 companies throughout North America and has approximately $700 million of capital under management. Prior to JMI Bob was with ABS Capital Partners, a $1.4 billion private equity firm. There, he concentrated on mid-to-later stage software company investments. From 1994 until 1999, Bob was a Vice President with Alex Brown in their Technology Investment Banking Group. There, he was involved in mergers and acquisitions and public equity financings.

Bob is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and served as a nuclear submarine officer in the U.S. Navy from 1987 to 1991. He also received an M.B.A. from Duke University.

Joe Timlin

Joe is Vice President with GrowthWorks Capital, one of Canada's leading venture capital groups.

Joe has experience in technical sales and sales management, and began his career as a construction engineer. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Bycast, Layer 7 Technologies, Make Technologies, ResponseTek Networks, Sutus, and Teradici.

Joe has a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Queen's University and an MBA from the University of British Columbia.
